This was HackZurich 2020 - Recap

On the weekend of 18-20 September 2020, HackZurich, the world's first virtual hackathlon, took place. More than 300 hackers met in Zurich and over 800 other creative, clever minds joined in from all over the world to rock exciting challenges. Here are some highlights and impressions of this fun and productive weekend.

Within 40 hours, the hackers developed more than 200 technical prototypes around the topics of sustainability, new forms of cooperation and health.

The team "AI-Search for spoken audio" won the main price. Its AI-based software searches podcasts for specific keywords. In particularly long podcasts the listener can jump to the relevant passages by searching for keywords.

The second prize went to "Tim the Team Plant". The app tries to improve team collaboration in a playful way. It analyzes the online activities and interactions within a team. The application presents its results in the image of a plant: the better the team collaborates, the healthier the plant appears. "Environment karaoke" reached the third place with its web app that mixes familiar melodies with new words. The lyrics, created with the help of AI, emphasize the beauty of nature and are intended to promote a more sustainable lifestyle.

The team "Crowdfree" won the audience award with an app for restaurant visits during the pandemic. The app offers almost everything that previously required interaction with staff in a restaurant: from table reservations and menu consultation to payment options. Guests can also leave recommendations for other restaurant visitors.

In addition, sponsor prizes were awarded.

Mimacom congratulates all the teams on their participation and the winners on their victory.
