New portal landscape

Logo Siemens

With the New Portal Landscape, Mimacom provided a solution that integrates about 100 heterogeneous backend applications in one single platform. The hosting is carried out and maintained by the Amazon AWS cloud. Native cloud services like EC2, RDS, Route 53, S3, VPC, ELB, CloudFront, CloudWatch and CloudTrail have been used in a cluster setup spread over several availability zones.

"Mimacom has created a flexible, robust and responsive platform that tremendously facilitates office work and communication of and between internal employees, customers and suppliers."

Torsten Kratz, Project Manager at Siemens

Background

More and more businesses are addressing their software and IT structure needs via the “as a service” model. This new business model is also very suitable for intranet or collaboration solutions. The biggest challenge here is to implement this business model in line with internal corporate regulations and security requirements.

Siemens is a global powerhouse focusing on the areas of electrification, automation and digitalization. Founded in 1847 and headquartered in Berlin and Munich, the company is one of the world’s largest producers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies as well as a leading supplier of systems for power generation and transmission and medical diagnosis. In infrastructure and industry solutions the company plays a pioneering role.

To maintain this role, our customer needed a partner to provide a cost-saving solution for the integration of all applications in one platform with a single sign-on. This Amazon Cloud based platform had to fulfil the following requirements: user friendly, easy to maintain, performant, mobile friendly and expandable.

Solution

Mimacom guided Siemens through the entire migration process, from definition and evaluation of strategies to the final migration and integration of the 100 internal apps from SAP NetWeaver to Liferay DXP:

  • Definition and evaluation of migration and integration strategies

  • Liferay Portal set-up

  • Adapting the Siemens theme and Style Guide to Liferay

  • Implementation of different strategies considering single sign-on and usability aspects according to the customers corporate strategy

Furthermore, Mimacom set up and maintains the cloud operation for the solution.

  • Creation of a hybrid cloud in AWS connecting the Siemens internal network

  • Set-up of a cloud environment according to Siemens internal IT security regulations

  • Leverage high performance by using AWS native cloud services like EC2, RDS, Route 53, S3, VPC, ELB, Cloud Front, CloudWatch and CloudTrail
